I thought Obama's speech

was good. VERY good. I particularly liked this part:

But at the end of the day, we can have the most dedicated teachers, the most supportive parents, and the best schools in the world and none of it will matter unless all of you fulfill your responsibilities. Unless you show up to those schools; pay attention to those teachers; listen to your parents, grandparents and other adults; and put in the hard work it takes to succeed.

And yes, we watched it in my class. And the most amazing part? The students were actually quiet and listened.

Awesome! I read the transcript and thought it was a great speech. I hope the parents who freaked out about this read it and realize how absurd they were acting!

I thought it was great too (once I finally saw it)! Man, I seriously wanted to kick some parents in the shins today... grrr... Ah well, life goes on. :)

It was a good speech and I enjoyed that same part you quoted. I'm sure every teacher in American enjoyed that one. ;-)

I can't believe all the freak out over that. People are so weird.

The speech itself was good. But nobody should have the right to arbitrarily speak to all the school children. That is too much power. Plus, the parents need to be informed about what exactly he is going to say. The speech was posted up the night before, which was good. They probably could have alleviated a lot of the uproar if they just posted the speech as soon as it was announced that he would give one. Of course, the lesson plans did seem a little fishy . . .

Personally, I think Obama's campaign was very smart in that they started a movement where you are considered a higher thinker if you are a supporter of his. I don't agree with this, of course. It's a farce. There are plenty of highly intelligent people that don't support Obama. Bush took away many of our freedoms, and Obama is doing the same thing. Both men are taking/took this nation straight on the path of Socialism. It doesn't matter if you vote Republican or Democrat, Socialism, here we come.

Wheeew, I'm a windbag. :).
