I got the most RIDICULOUS email this morning. I'll preface the email by saying this student is struggling in class (mostly because he doesn't pay attention), and his very "wise" parents decided to take him out of school for a week for the "hunt."
Here is the email (with any errors not corrected):
Jimmy went hunting with his dad and shot a five point deer that he guted by him self can he get any credit for his absences
I was totally flabbergasted for about a minute while I tried to digest the email. The response "He** no!" is not acceptable as are not "Should I be impressed?" and "Are you a complete idiot?" and "What does gutting a deer have to do with photosynthesis?"
Any suggestions?

Quick Update
My life's been boring, but here's a quick update about what I've been doing. (I'm writing in an attempt to not be called a blogging slacker by Deb.) ;)
Last Friday was the Renaissance Bingo assembly (remember those, girls?). Rachel was off on maternity leave for her new baby girl, and so it was left to myself and another teacher (Darci, our physics teacher--she's a gem) to plan and execute. And execute we did. It turned out well. 405 students in the cafeteria. It was jam-packed, but it was fun. And there were few snags, so that was good, too.
Saturday I cleaned the house and worked on my professional portfolio. In order to bump up to a level 2 teaching certification next year, I had to put together evidence that I am a good teacher. I did that for a while, went to Anna's GORGEOUS reception, and then Allan took me to La Dolce Vita. Gosh, I love, love, LOVE that place! I returned home only to work on my portfolio again.
Sunday was great. We went over to my folks and had a grand ol' time.
Monday I did a lab in class using planaria, which I had to tweak a little because when I arrived, two of my three jars of planaria were dead. But it ended up all working out . My portfolio was due as well, so I had to make a run to Kinko's to print out some colored stuff and to bind the book together. I handed in my very nice-looking portfolio to the oohs and ahhs of my advisor/head mentor person. I went to the Target and did grocery shopping and also bought Get Smart. For FHE we went over to my parents again and ate yummy nachos and played some games.
Yesterday I pulled a lab out of who knows where and taught about cellular respiration and photosynthesis. I went to the gym, and apparently my class was canceled (there was no one there), so I ran on the elliptical and watched Law and Order.
Today, I'm talking about parasitic Nematodes at school and making homemade pizza at home. Mmmmmmm. (That's for the homemade pizza, NOT for the parasitic nematodes.)
That is all!

Vote!
As I walked into school today, I noticed two long lines pouring out of the doors. I quickly realized that these people were here to vote. Truthfully, I got misty-eyed. I think it's amazing that we here in America have the opportunity and the blessing to have an impact on what happens in our country. People may say that "my vote doesn't count." Well, maybe one vote doesn't count, but all of our votes together do. So, my friends, I hope you exercise the opportunity and the blessing to go and vote today. I know I will.
PS If you're unsure about where you vote and about what issues you'll be voting on, a great website to visit is www.leaveyourprint.com. You can type your information and all of the candidates and issues you'll vote for come up with various information and links. Allan and I read up on the issues last night for FHE. =)
