Student gets up.
Student barfs.
It landed mostly on the floor, but some landed on one student's backpack. I felt awful for both of the students--the puker and the receiver of the puke. I had to clean the poor backpack and remain calm and wear my latex gloves because the school nurse tells us, "If it's warm, wet, and not yours, wear gloves!" It has really put me out of sorts for some reason. I can't think clearly. Probably because all I can think about is a shower and not eating for a while.

First Days of School
The first days of school are over. And I was on FIRE!!! I don't mean to brag, and I certainly don't want to jinx myself, but I was on top of my teacher game. My classes are large, my room is warm, but it's okay. I hope I started the year off right and that the students will know I mean business.
I guess we'll see!

This just in . . .
I have a new pet peeve: people who don't use the little bar thing when they are behind you in the checkout line. It's not so bad when they leave a gigantic space, but today some guy put his stuff right next to mine. The checker was about to swipe his stuff right along with mine when I glared and said, "That's not mine."
Also, I can't find my school keys. It's really worrying me.

Saturday
I visited one of my very favorite people on Saturday.
But first, some background. I invited Mr. Reese to my wedding (we write occasionally), but he didn't make it. However, when we got back from our honeymoon, there was a package for me. It was very characteristic of Max. It was a box chick eggs had come in, and the whole thing was taped with masking tape. I opened the box to discover it full of shredder paper. I dove in and found two amazing things: 1) $100 in cash; 2) a beautiful little purple vase with a note attached saying it was from his mother's estate. Needless to say, I was overwhelmed and very touched. He included a little note that said he'd like to see me again one day. So I set a date, wrote him a note back, and waited for the appointed day.
That day was this past Saturday. Allan and I drove up to Murray. His house is very modest (not at all like you think it could be). And there he was, irrigating his grass. He was wearing the funniest rubber boots, and he looked EXACTLY the same as he did when we were in high school. We had a good visit, and it was fun to talk to him again.

We snapped a picture to remember the day and the good old times.
PS The A to Z thing is just below this entry.

"There is a grandeur in this view of life [that of natural selection], with its several powers, having been originally breathed by the Creator into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being evolved" Charles Darwin, Origin of Species.
