Super Random Ramblings

Ah, how I love holidays. I love being with family, I love the spirit of the season, but most of all, I love sleeping. How I have missed the glorious hours of sleep! Not only did I catch up on my sleep this fantastic Thanksgiving weekend, I put labels on my bugs, planned five lessons, decorated the house, decorated my apartment, and went up to Salt Lake to see the lights on Temple Square. It was a marvelous and glorious holiday, and I cannot wait until Christmas vacation.

There are only nine--count 'em--NINE days left of class. Hallelujah! After that, there are finals and such, but only NINE days left of class. I am quite excited.

Today I published "Haylee's Third Annual Christmas Wishlist." Copies of the list can be found in the lab. It's pretty funny this year. I have yet to decorate the lab, but that is coming soon. I just need to buy it all. It is always fun to have the lab decorated.

Ah, this weekend I bought a fantastic jacket. It was originally $40, but guess how much I bought it for? Any guesses? $20? Lower. $10? Lower. I bought it for $6.49, folks--$6.49!!! It is pretty great.

I think that is all the randomness for now . . . I need to stop before it gets out of control. =)

My Student Teaching Assignment

I received my student teaching placement this morning. I will be teaching human biology at Bingham High School in the Jordan School District. My cooperating teaching will be Gary Whitney. My advisor thinks Mr. Whitney and I will get along swimmingly, and I am super excited to be going there!

Top Ten Things I Accomplished Before 10am

10. Got ready for the day.
9. Said my prayers.
8. Went to get the tablecloths for initiation.
7. Found out that there are no tablecloths for initiation.
6. Ordered tablecloths for initiation.
5. Planned a lesson.
4. Went to Macey's to buy stuff for the lesson.
3. Had my graduation exit interview from the education center.
2. Went to the Cashier's Office to pay for graduation.
1. Bought my ticket out of BYU--HOORAY FOR GRADUATION!!!

And all of that was before 10am today. Today has been EXTREMELY productive, and I feel so happy that I accomplished all the things I needed to. I took an art history quiz, I finished the program for initiation, I dropped off the program to be copied, I ordered balloons for initiation, I picked up the program for initiation, and I put together the programs for initiation; I went to entomology, taught a lesson in my education class, and put my computer back in its rightful spot at work. I bought a game, I went to FHE, I ate dinner with Mel, and I talked to Dr. Gardner. Now all I have to do is clean the apartment, read my scriptures, do some homework, and go to bed. I love being productive!!!

"And I had no Jane to comfort me."

Although the title quote has very much to do with this entry, it may seem a little odd, but I hope it all works out in the end.

After receiving an email at work, I was completely emotional. First, I tried to ignore it, but there Dr. Gardner was, knowing something was wrong. I smiled and continued with what we were doing, but he sat there patiently. Finally I expressed my emotions, first in a pile of anger and then in an eruption of sobs. He sat there patiently, he listened, and he cared. He let me cry on his shoulder. As we were standing there with his comforting arm around my shoulders, I had a glimpse into the future when I would "have no Dr. Gardner to comfort me." I expressed this feeling to him and wondered aloud what I would do when I was no longer working in the lab.

We both decided I could cry over the phone just as easily as I could in his office.

Deep Thought for the Day

I went to my apartment in the deep darkness of the night (it was only 6:30pm) and flipped the switch in my bedroom. Alas, I heard a small pop and saw no light. Blast! A light bulb is out! I took the glass off of the fixture and saw that there were two light bulbs. Huh, thought I, that's weird that both went off at the same time.

I dug through the apartment and emerged with two new light bulbs. I took the old bulbs out, put the new bulbs in, put the glass back on, and flipped the switch, hoping the light would come on.

Not only did the light come on, but it was a glorious and beautiful bright light, far brighter than I have experienced before. I then realized that I have only experienced a light fixture with one working bulb. Little did I know that one bulb was out the entire time I've been in the apartment. It was only when the light came on after I replaced it that I knew what I was missing.

I quickly became philosophical and began pondering the significance of light. Little does the world recognize the brilliant light of the Gospel because they have never experienced it before; when someone finally does and the light bulb finally goes on, they wonder how they ever lived without that new light. I find the same is true for some things in my life. I live and work and sleep and eat, and sometimes I forget that if I worked a little harder, more Light could come into my life. I forget until the light comes on, and then I realize how brilliant it all truly is and wonder how I ever lived without it. I am truly grateful for light and for the Light of the world.
