Names have been changed to protect the stupid...

I got the most RIDICULOUS email this morning. I'll preface the email by saying this student is struggling in class (mostly because he doesn't pay attention), and his very "wise" parents decided to take him out of school for a week for the "hunt."

Here is the email (with any errors not corrected):

Jimmy went hunting with his dad and shot a five point deer that he guted by him self can he get any credit for his absences

I was totally flabbergasted for about a minute while I tried to digest the email. The response "He** no!" is not acceptable as are not "Should I be impressed?" and "Are you a complete idiot?" and "What does gutting a deer have to do with photosynthesis?"

Any suggestions?

Oh, my gosh. That is classic. I have some suggestions. "Thank you for your email. At least now I know where Jimmy gets his stupidity from." or "I teach biology not redneck." or "...he can get credit if I can get a bonus for going on vacation." Wow, the nerve.

"Dear parent trying to persuade me to give your student credit for science while sluffing,
This class is not an anatomy class. Maybe if your son dissected a tree while in the woods I could give him credit for skipping class but since his chosen activity had nothing to do with the subject matter we are covering in class I cannot assign it a credit value. Sorry for the inconvenience this may cause you. At least you'll enjoy your dinner :)"

The student has a point. Doesn't UEA stand for Utah Elk Association?

Regarding your previous post, I always say "Mmmm!" to parasitic nematodes.

Who is "The Uvalde Kid"!? Do we need to protect our blogs yet again!?

And sad day that there exists such stupidity in the world! But I most especially loved the "him self" part. WOW! I actually read it "his self," since it was separated... I'm sorry you have to deal with such...well, perhaps it's better if I don't say. :)

Good luck!
