Pictures from Albuqerque

I finally have some pictures from my trip to ISEF! Most of them were of the kids . . . but that's boring. ;) So, here are some of me.

This is me with the chairman of Intel. When he first came out on stage, I had remarked to Lisa that he was a cute old man. At the end of the opening ceremony, she said, "Let's go down and grab your picture!" So we did. That man is a gazillionaire. And he was really sweet. Plus he had some sage words to share with the audience, "Get the best education you can and then find something you love and do it." I don't know if I've fulfilled the education part yet, but I'm definitely doing something I love.

When the kids were being judged, we went to the zoo. At the giraffe exhibit, one was peeking his head out. I put my hand up to see if he'd let me pet him, and he did! It was one of the most exciting experiences of my life. He licked my arm with his tongue and let me pet him. It was a cool feeling.

At the chimp exhibit, I wanted to get a picture because I tell my kids that chimps are our closest relatives. As I was looking at this chimp and talking to her, it was almost eerie how human-like she was. It was a neat experience, and for about two seconds I wanted to be Jane Goodall.

At the aquarium the fish were very active. The sharks were out and about, too.

Before the awards ceremony, we chaperons took some time to make some pottery. Here are Bruce, me, van Dijk, and Lisa posing with our pottery.
It was a fun trip. I was glad to go and get psyched up for science fair. Wahoo!

Sweet pics! Looks like oodles of fun...ah, the good ol' days! :)

Wow, I'm glad you got a pic of that giraffe...I had a hard time envisioning you allowing a giraffe to lick you! ;)

I bet your kids are glad to have you back! When is the last day of school?
