Odds and Ends

This past weekend in St. George was absolutely fantastic! It revitalized me enough to be able to go back to school and not slap anyone, yet it wasn't long enough to put me into "summer" mode. I read books, slept, participated in leisurely activities . . . and did not do ONE thing for school. I was quite pleased with myself.

Tonight was parent-teacher-student conference. I spent an extra four-and-a-half hours in the school and saw less than 20 parents. But those I did see were nice enough. Some even talked about the assignments I had given the kids (particularly the stem cell and cloning research brochure) and said THEY (the parents) learned something. That's what I'm there to do, folks, educate people! Other parents said their children enjoyed class (yipee!), and some students remarked that they had never been really good at science until they came into my class. They believe, now, that they can be good at science. Really, that is the best part. Helping kids learn a subject and letting them know they can succeed. This is THE most fulfilling part about my job--knowing I make a difference in some kids' lives. Not all, and that's okay, but some. It's enough of a confirmation from Heavenly Father that I am doing what I am supposed to be doing right now.

As a side note, the state legislature is trying to pass a bill that would prohibit schools from charging course fees. That would mean the science department would loose OODLES of money, and we wouldn't be able to do labs anymore. I've written a cover letter to our state representatives describing why we need to keep course fees, and if you would be willing, I could send it to you and then you could pass it on to your state senator and representative. (That's easy to find--I'll help you out.) As a science department, we'll be sending letters, and I'm going to have my students send letters. But if you all could help, it would make a difference!

I think that's all of my ramblings! Loves, etc.

Did my mom come? Of course she came, she always comes, even when her child has straight A's. (Not that either of my siblings currently at the high school do, but, you know).

Send me a letter or email me.

Hooray for road trips! I need a road trip in my life.
I always liked parent teacher conferences even though I didn't go with my mom. I just wanted to know what my teachers thought about me. I made my mom memorize every comment that was made, especially with A-D.

Yeah, email me the info on that bill too.
