Deep Thought for the Day

I went to my apartment in the deep darkness of the night (it was only 6:30pm) and flipped the switch in my bedroom. Alas, I heard a small pop and saw no light. Blast! A light bulb is out! I took the glass off of the fixture and saw that there were two light bulbs. Huh, thought I, that's weird that both went off at the same time.

I dug through the apartment and emerged with two new light bulbs. I took the old bulbs out, put the new bulbs in, put the glass back on, and flipped the switch, hoping the light would come on.

Not only did the light come on, but it was a glorious and beautiful bright light, far brighter than I have experienced before. I then realized that I have only experienced a light fixture with one working bulb. Little did I know that one bulb was out the entire time I've been in the apartment. It was only when the light came on after I replaced it that I knew what I was missing.

I quickly became philosophical and began pondering the significance of light. Little does the world recognize the brilliant light of the Gospel because they have never experienced it before; when someone finally does and the light bulb finally goes on, they wonder how they ever lived without that new light. I find the same is true for some things in my life. I live and work and sleep and eat, and sometimes I forget that if I worked a little harder, more Light could come into my life. I forget until the light comes on, and then I realize how brilliant it all truly is and wonder how I ever lived without it. I am truly grateful for light and for the Light of the world.

That is one of my most favorite things about you, Hay, your ability to tie spiritual truths into everyday experiences. I appreciate that. It's all about THE LIGHT, baby! I can't wait until the day that the true, deep, and everlasting significance of Light is made known to me. For now, I'll just remain in awe and read inspiring blog entries about it.

PS I cleaned out the light fixture above our sink yesterday and guess what I found in it?! A horde of bugs! I almost cried out because there were so many excellent specimens, but unfortunately they were dried out and crusty. I'm sorry, girl. But I did catch you two relatively good sized spiders, they are red and creepy looking. I'm sure Anna will have some fun and exciting things to share with you this weekend too! Happy day for entomology trips to Hawaii!!!

I really think that that is a gift (however corny this may sound) to be able to take your every day experiences and see the gospel perspective.
