Saturday

I visited one of my very favorite people on Saturday.

But first, some background. I invited Mr. Reese to my wedding (we write occasionally), but he didn't make it. However, when we got back from our honeymoon, there was a package for me. It was very characteristic of Max. It was a box chick eggs had come in, and the whole thing was taped with masking tape. I opened the box to discover it full of shredder paper. I dove in and found two amazing things: 1) $100 in cash; 2) a beautiful little purple vase with a note attached saying it was from his mother's estate. Needless to say, I was overwhelmed and very touched. He included a little note that said he'd like to see me again one day. So I set a date, wrote him a note back, and waited for the appointed day.

That day was this past Saturday. Allan and I drove up to Murray. His house is very modest (not at all like you think it could be). And there he was, irrigating his grass. He was wearing the funniest rubber boots, and he looked EXACTLY the same as he did when we were in high school. We had a good visit, and it was fun to talk to him again.
